Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Starkly ("we", "our", "the app") is an anonymous crowdsourced survey platform about sex, relationships, and intimacy. We are committed to protecting your privacy. Starkly does not collect personally identifiable information.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Anonymous Device Identifier

We generate a random identifier (device ID) stored locally on your device. This ID is not derived from your hardware, advertising ID, or any fingerprinting technique. It cannot be used to identify you personally.

2.2 Optional Demographics

During onboarding, you may optionally provide: birth year, sex at birth, and sexual orientation. This data is entirely optional and is used solely to personalize the questions shown to you. It is linked only to your anonymous device ID.

2.3 Survey Responses

When you answer questions, your responses are stored linked to your anonymous device ID. Responses are aggregated to show statistics to all users. Individual responses are never displayed.

  • To display aggregated survey results
  • To personalize questions based on optional demographic data
  • To prevent duplicate votes on the same question

4. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • Name, email, phone number, or any contact information
  • Precise location or GPS data
  • Photos, files, or media
  • Contacts or social media accounts
  • Hardware identifiers or device fingerprints

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your data with third parties. Aggregated, anonymized statistics may be displayed publicly within the app. The one exception is optional analytics described below.

5a. Optional Analytics (Google Analytics)

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (a service of Google LLC) to collect anonymous usage data: page views, session counts, vote submissions (without question content), and activation funnel events. We never send demographic data, question IDs, answer content, or any special-category data to Google. Analytics collection is disabled by default and only activated if you explicitly accept. You can withdraw consent at any time by declining in the consent banner. Data is processed by Google under their Privacy Policy. Retention: 14 months (GA4 default).

6. Data Retention & Deletion

Your anonymous data is retained as long as the service operates. You can request deletion of all data associated with your device ID (demographics, votes, and suggestions) at any time through our data deletion page. Alternatively, clearing your app data or browser storage will generate a new anonymous device ID, effectively starting fresh.

7. Children's Privacy

Starkly is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 18. The app's content is rated for mature audiences.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
